Tennessee Paddle Events

In celebration of the Obed's role in hosting the Pass The Paddle event as part of the national Rivers 2000 Project, Governor Sundquist has proclaimed April 7-9 as Rivers 2000 Weekend in Tennessee.

Friday, April 7

Kayaking on the ObedOpen paddling on the Obed /Emory system, one of the best settings in the Southeast. We’ll be glad to give you some guidance on trips/ runs. The gauges are there too!

Advanced Paddling Clinic –  a great weekend of instruction and fun hosted and sponsored by the Tennessee Scenic River Association, TSRA.

Mountain bike trips - On your own. See the MTB Section of this site. Great Maps!

National Paddling Film Festival 2000 Road Show  - 7 to 10 pm Frozen Head State Park Visitors Center.

Hiking on the Cumberland Trail  with the Cumberland Trail Conference

Saturday, April 8

Tennessee Paddle 2K Festival -  all your favorite “outdoors” suppliers, live entertainment and food booths. Starting at 2:00 PM and going till 9:00 PM. Downtown Wartburg. $5.00 admission. 

Used boat, mountain biking, climbing & hiking gear, second hand sales ands swaps will be okay at the designated location within the Festival site. Stuff must be related to paddling, mountain biking, climbing or hiking. Admission is still required. Absolutely no commercial folks allowed in the swap area. TP has no liability for lost stuff.   

In the event of rain on Saturday April 8, the Festival will relocate inside to the Wartburg Civic Center located about 1 mile east of Wartburg on Rt. 62. You'll see the signs for parking. We'll do our best to get the word out on the radio.

Race For The Obed - A 18 mile down-river two-person relay race starting about 8 AM from Antioch Bridge on Daddy's Creek to Nemo Bridge on the Emory. Paddlers exchange at Obed Junction. Subject to change based on water levels. Sponsored by Dagger. Visit The Race page for details.

Pass The Paddle Event - We're proud to be hosting Tennessee's participation in the ceremonial Pass the Paddle event organized as part of the Rivers 2000 Project. Ceremony at 5:30 pm. See the Pass the Paddle section for more information.

Bird watching trip with Steve and Barbara Stedman. They'll meet participants at 8:00 AM eastern end of the Obed Park Headquarters in Wartburg. Sunday, April 9

Open paddling on the rivers.  

Hiking on the Cumberland Trail  with the Cumberland Trail Conference. Meet at 8:00 AM

Rock Climbing - Check the rock climbing section for info. You need to pre-register for this at the Festival on Saturday.  

Mountain bike check the schedule for a ride.

Wild flower hike at Frozen Head State Park 2 PM. Check the schedule
