Sign Up for A Bike Ride

Highland Adventures Guide Service, LLC. will coordinate several rides in the beautiful wilderness area surrounding Wartburg. If your tastes run to hardcore mountain biking or just a nice easy road ride (and all points in between), you can explore the area by bike. Sign up at the Highland Adventures booth at the Festival site. We will offer specific rides based upon rider interest. Some of the possibilities include:

Mountain Biking

Lone Mountain State Forest: There's enough great views, single track and jeep roads here for all ability levels of mountain biker.

Catoosa WMA: This is the area surrounding the Clear Creek/Obed/Emory watershed. If the area is open to cycling on the TP Weekend, there are numerous jeep roads and disused logging roads to explore. Check back at this site for further information as it becomes available.

Windrock Mountain: We have only just found out about bicycle access to this area. Many legendary routes have been spoken about in hushed tones through the years, but until recently we've not been able to legally go there. Now it's changed and you can share in its exploration.

Road Biking

Mt. Larry Loop: This is a fairly strenuous loop that the serious road rider will love. At 60+ miles and including two major climbs, it's not for the faint of heart, but it couldn't be more picturesque. This is where much of the movie "October Sky" was filmed. This is also the area made famous by James Earl Ray's escape from Brushy Mountain State Prison in 1977. Once you're there, you'll see why his escape was unsuccessful. It's beautiful but harsh and unforgiving terrain, no place to be on the lam. See the Acrobat Reader map file.

Lancing Loop: If you're not looking for a ride quite as demanding as the Mt. Larry Loop, then why not try the Lancing Loop. It's approximately 30 miles of undulating terrain leaving Wartburg, traveling through the historic town of Lancing, then heading North to Pilot Mountain and back to Wartburg through Annadel. It's a slice of Appalachian heaven waiting to be explored.

All riders must wear an ANSI approved bicycle helmet on all rides. Check in with Highland Adventures at their booth at The Festival or contact (865) 609-8282 or email us for more information.
